Whether you’re pitching your music directly to labels, music libraries, music supervisors, or anyone with a connection that can place your music; there are some best practices you should be following so you don’t come off as desperate and inexperienced. You have to first remember a lot of these people are super busy and get music thrown at them constantly. You have to figure a way to stand out, but at the very least, be professional.
I would definitely recommend doing your research on what that particular label or music library is in need of at that time. If they are currently looking for RNB songs and you send them hard trap, that is not a good look. Try to dial this in as much as possible, give them what they want. If you are going for a more open submission, that’s fine too; but don’t just wildly send the same songs to 30 different places; that typically doesn’t work well. We’ve included email templates in ‘The Indie Music Library Guide’ you can use if you choose to submit that way; if you don't have that yet fill our your information below and we will get that over to you. You always want to make sure your music is easily accessible for them to listen to in the form of some sort of playlist. We have used a private SoundCloud link in the past. Do not send Spotify or streaming links unless they are OK with it. I would stay away from sending raw MP3 or WAV files. If you do, make sure you have your tag on it; you never know who will get access to your songs. It’s always best practice to protect your intellectual property wherever you can. A lot of companies will have a form or section on their website where you can submit, which makes it super easy. I cannot preach this enough, QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY! If your music is not at a professional level, do not send it in. Wait until you have mastered your craft or have found a very good mixing & mastering engineer to give you that broadcast quality sound you need in today’s competitive market.
